Call of Duty Black Ops single player

Two weekends ago, I had the misfortune of playing through the entire Call of Duty Black Ops campaign. It's a piece of garbage. Where do I start...? Oh yes, the story, or what you can make of story that the game offers you. Basically, the storytelling is done by playing flashback sequences while being interrogated. It sounds cool, but this means the story is done in loud flashes where you have no idea what is going on. There's a few pictures on the screen flashing and sounds bites which are all done over the top over each other making it impossible to hear or see anything. When you do understand what is going on, it's still a terrible story. It's far too dramatic for something trying to be realistic and while to voice acting is quite good, they voices are mostly drowned in the constant explosions and yelling of "SEMTEX!" which certainly doesn't help the story. There are a few cool ideas in the story, like this gas called Nova 6 which is a variation of the gas used in the Nazi concentration camps (while it's cool, it's also slack) but aside from that, you have a plot which is about an evil scientist trying to brainwash a solider into killing the president. Realistic? I think not. Another area which the game fails to deliver is the graphics. The graphics are dreadful with poor models of characters and close up shots reveal the all to obvious pixels. The environments are also poorly rendered and stale and the explosions are just awful. I've seen better graphics on Wii.

Now for the most disappointing thing about the game. The actual gameplay. IT'S TOO EASY. It requires little to no strategy at all and when you are forced to do something which may require any skill at all, like breaking out of a lab before Nova 6 is released, the game just holds your hand tightly and just shows you what to do. Say you have to break down a door, you're thinking "Hrmm. How do I knock this door down?" When suddenly, your teammate says: "Shoot the hinges" And if you can't understand basic speech, the hinges on the door start flashing bright yellow just in case you needed more help. I was playing on veteran. VETERAN! Veteran is supposed to be the hardest difficulty in the game. It's not just stuff like that which is too easy, the gunplay is too simple. It really doesn't matter which weapon you have, just as long as it can fire, it should be fine for taking out any type of enemy. Enemy A.I. is dumb, almost as dumb as the unhelpful friendly A.I. who will always be getting in the way of your line of sight and shooting the wrong enemy and basically zigging when they really should zag. That coupled with the fact that it's hard to tell which gun slinging soldier is on your team or not makes for some poor action. I once busted down the door and closed my eyes, held the left trigger, the right trigger and moved the right trigger around a bit and when I opened my eyes, every enemy in the room was dead.

You may be asking: "Why 4EVER did you play that dreadful game in the first place?" I'll tell you why. After the credits rolled, this scene came up.

  1. I've seen some terrible cut scenes in my time but seriously, it looked like jfk's head swiveled 180 degrees at one point and there was little to no lip syncing
