Professor layton and the eternal diva

Yesterday i watched the movie professor layton and the eternal diva, it was great. The professor layton series is one of my favourite game series ever, and the movie did not disappoint. They even managed to put puzzles into the movie itself, which i thought was great, The movie had that same cartoon like style of animation that the cut scenes have in the game. WARNING contains minor spoilers about specter's flute.

SuperHero Games

While there have been many, most of them have been garbage. Special Exceptions go to Batman Arkham Asylum, Infamous and Prototype. Why do they suck though? Well, it's very hard to capture the feel of being a Super Hero in a video game, seeing as you can only do so much. Say your super hero can fly. What's the difference between making your hero fly and making a plane fly? When making a game, you want your hero to feel unique, do things which other characters can't do. Take Spider-Man for instance. He swings on webs and climbs walls. There aren't many people who can do that, so you want to focus on what makes him different.
Another problem with Super Hero games is that they are normally released as a movie tie-in, which leads to short development time, which leads to poor results. The best super hero movie games by far are X-Men Origins Wolverine (Uncaged edition) and Spider-Man 2. Wolverine felt like the character he was meant to be. He sliced and diced anything that got in his way and Spider-Man was able to swing across all of New York as people saw him do in the comics, saving people and fighting crime.

What makes or breaks an action game is the combat. Each Super hero fights differently, so each game has to be different. Since your hero is more powerful than everybody else, he has to be more powerful than everybody else, otherwise the player doesn't feel like a hero. Generally, superheroes that are more human, like Batman and Ultimate Spider-Man make for better combat because we expect less of them. I mean, if you saw Superman beat up the Red Skull, you wouldn't be impressed, but if Captain America did, then you would be impressed, because Cap is weaker than Supes. What can make combat dreadful in Super hero games is the amount of enemies. Since no-one is as powerful as your hero, the devs will probably send thousands of goons your way, to try and make it challenging. This is why most Super hero games turn into button mashers.
To make good combat, it needs to be strategic. Take Batman: AA for instance. In face to face combat, you have get as many hits as you can to build up the freeflow combo, which does more damage. You need to counter at the right time, because enemies to a lot of damage to you if you get hit. You also need to take time to defeat the tougher enemies like the knife wielding goons who block your combo's and can perform unblockable attacks and the taser guy's who have to be dodged over for damage to be done. Oh, and watch out for guy's who want to use the gun's in the room. And the Titan inmates. And the environment. And I haven't even started on invisible predator...
Ultimate Spider-Man's combat was also similar, but it had waaaay more boss fights than Arkahm Asylum. It wasn't quite as good as AA, but the boss fights were great.

Boss fights are important in Super Hero games. It's the one time in a game that another character can be more powerful than a hero, which is why boss fight's are better hard. What some games do is fill in the boss fight's with goons, which is pretty cheap. Boss fights need to be great. I mean, take a look at this one:

Super Hero games are so common these days, but few ever really deliver. That's why all of us comic nerds are hanging out for Spider-Man Edge of Time and Batman Arkham City. And remember, with great power, comes great responsibility

Batman Arkham City: Penguin

Pretty much what the title says. I wish it was Adam west voicing Batman though. "Quickly Robin, to the Bat-Cave. We havn't a moment to lose!"
This also tells me something about the villains. Joker and Two-Face are willing to take anyone in their armies. Riddler doesn't have an army, he uses moles in the other villains groups to bring them down. Penguin only takes the best of  the best. Batman is still beast.

4ever, i found you a url. the text is in spanish, the actual words in englsh

Rachet and clank: sadness and gladness

As you may know, I have been playing a lot of ratchet and clank games recently. However, while I maintain that the ratchet and clank games are utterly brilliant, they are not without their faults. to begin with, the mistake that was Ratchet and clank Tools of destruction. The least popular of all the major ratchet and clank gaames, tools of destruction was a bit of a let down. The game itself cannot be found online at either eb gtames or at JB hifi. This is not a surprise as the game took too many steps too quickly. people were still trying to enjoy size matters(which I will get onto soon enough), and to get those last 3000 bolts to by the RYNO when this game came out. the storyline was rather cheesy and the weapons were rather bad. A weapon that is found in a level has more power Than the RYNO 4 when fully upgraded. Getting back to size matters, This is the only ratchet and clank game that I know of that is NOT made by insomniac directly. the game was made by a company called High Impcat Games. If I say so myself, they did a reasonably good job. OK, the storyline was a bit dodgy and the parts of the game where you would spend hours on end looking for that last peice of the electroshock armour. but the weapons are what gave this game an edge over tools of destruction. The Ryno also made a comeback as a rocket launcher that fired antimatter rockets, the optical maser array was also rather leathal, the agents of dread made a comeback as well as a morph weapon called the mootator/armoogeddon, which is basically the morph-o-ray/Quack-o-ray from Ratchet and Clank 2/3. the game may be on the sony handheld console but it is also on ps2 which prevents any let down for fans of the game who don't have sony handheld consoles.
*Note, If this post seems disjointed, dont worry about it. This is my opinoin that is shared by a lot of other people. I'm just stating what I believe*

I'm so lazy

4ever was asking me to find clips of stuff which would have been difficult to find, so instead im going to prove that what i said was true but not satisfy him at all. You might need to click on the pictures so that you can read the subtitles, but it is definitely the audio logs.

Playstation 4 (Sigh...)

Every 10 years or so, Sony releases a new Playstation. And recently, they announced that the PS4 would be unveiled at the next E3. But, I think that they're going to do exactly what they do every time they announce the next gen of PS. Claim it's going to be fantastic and revolutionize gaming, but in the end, it will have the same controller, same functionality and a new coat of paint.

4EVER's take on Dead Space Worlds

Since I was the one who introduced Terfle to the game, I figured I might as well make my own post about it.

Dead Space Worlds is the only game in the series to take place on a handheld but it feels very much like the console versions. This is not a complaint at all, seeing as the handheld takes a fresh take on the over the shoulder 3rd person Dead Space horror games, featuring a new protagonist by the name of Vandal. As you go about slaying Necromorphs, you will hack, blast and cut your way just to survive the challenges the game throws at you.
Visually, the game is magnificent. It looks absolutely beautiful on the small iPod Touch with some very sharp looking environments. Vandal and the enemies are also visuals treats to look at. The only thing with the graphics I have to complain about would be the fact that you spend a lot of time in the same industrial  area,  and after a while, it just becomes underwhelming to look at the same metal environments over and over.
The story I find can be a bit uninspiring. I like the idea of the story as a whole though. Basically, Vandal is an engineer who is sent aboard this mining space station known as "The Sprawl" by the church of Unitology to sabotage several devices. You do this, but you then work out that you have been betrayed by the church and find yourself stuck on the sprawl with the Necromorphs that you helped release. You are then contacted by director Tideman and he says that if you are truly regretful of your actions, then you will go to the control room and seal off the doors to the Public Sector of the Sprawl so the Necromorphs can't reach the public. You are also aided by Tyler through the communication system. Tyler proves to be an...interesting ally in your fight to stop the Necromorphs. The trouble with the story is, that all you ever feel that you are doing is just working your way from one part of the Sprawl to the next and you soon lose that driving force of "You MUST stop the monsters" and I found myself forgetting why I was fighting. However, Vandal does have an interesting story as well. Vandal is a few peas short of a pie and begins to lose sanity. There are very cool moments to these insanity sections . For one, there is this a part when you will see a mirror image of yourself, doing exactly what you are doing, but when you go close enough to touch it, the image turns into a Necromorph. Another loss of sanity moment is clear when you walk Vandal down a long corridor and the faint picture of the face of a Necromorph slowly forces it's way into your sight. But my absolute favourite moment is when Vandal admits the sanity has left the poor engineer when the filtered voice comes out of the speakers with the words "I don't know what's real anymore..."
Vandal is the ultimate Shadow Protagonist. He could be anyone under that helmut, even you. The trouble with this though, is when I finished the game and found out who Vandal was, the illusion was broken for me a little when I played the game the second time round.
Gameplay follows the Dead Space theme. You use the weapons available to you to kill all the enemies. The best way to do this is to cut off their limbs, as is hinted to you by words written in blood on the walls. There are also a lot of enemy types which is cool. You've got the standard Necromorph that will try and get as close to you as possible to slash you with the spikes on it's arms, the Crawlers, that have tentacles on their backs which fire stingers at you, Exploders which have exploding sacks on their arms and will swing them at you to self destruct, Pregnants, that (if you hit them in the stomach) will release tonnes of small creatures that latch onto you and you have to waste heaps ammo to rid the universe of them. And of course, the brutes...but you only fight two of them in the game. Each enemy has their own strengths and weaknesses, which you must exploit if you want to kill them.
Fighting is done through engineering tools. What's neat about the weapons, is that they all feel in place for a mining station. You have the "Plasma Saw" which is...um, a plasma saw, a "Plasma Cutter", a "Ripper", a "Line Gun" and the "Corer". There's also a new weapon released, but I has no new weapon.  Each has a secondary function which is handy. The main focus of the game is having little ammo and little health to get by on, but I don't think that you can get the true thrill of Dead Space Worlds when playing on easy. When you play on normal, you die in three hits which is super stressful and ammo is scarce. Think being locked in a room with a bunch of killer beasts is scary? Try doing it with only three shots in the Plasma Cutter.
Dead Space Worlds is actually my favourite iPod touch game and I do highly recommend it. Try playing on hard, at night, with headphones for the full experience.

SPOILERS BELOW. Do not look below if you have not completed the game!

There is also a boss fight in the game. After Tyler betrays you and tricks you into locking all the doors to the public sector open, Tideman informs you that something is suffocating the energy core. Once you get to it, you will see your worst nightmare. After destroying the beast, it grabs Vandal and pulls her into the depths. Vandal manages to climb out, but her helmut falls off, revealing that she is a girl. This is what made it hard for me to play the second time around, knowing who she was. She calls Tideman and says that she's hurt and needs help, but no-one is there to answer her call. She says her name is Kerry Norton, which probably has some place in Dead Space lore, but I'm not sure where. After the credits roll, you see a trail of blood from where Vandal used to be. Tyler's voice rings through and says: "Mission complete"
Terfle also said you see Vandal's dead body in Dead Space 2. I WANT TO SEEZ THE CLIP ON YOUTUBE. TELL MEZ THE URL!!

Dead Space: World

Being someone who never really plays horror games, dead space world was an unusual experience for me. This game can be bought on the app store and could probably be acquired on other mobile devices. This game takes place before dead space two, and has a brand new main character, instead of playing as the usual Isaac Clark, you instead play as another engineer who goes by the codename of Vandal. The game starts with Vandal doing some strange work for the church of unitology, various things happen and Vandal is put in the middle of a Necromorph outbreak. Vandal's voice filter and the fact that Vandal doesn't feel the need to take off a helmet constantly (*cough Isaac Clark *cough) makes the character much more mysterious. The music in this game is very impressive, until i played this game i never thought that orchestral music could be even mildly scary. The game play is great, and it doesn't even suffer that much from the console game to hand held change. For those hardcore people who play horror games constantly you might not find it that scary, but i think it is scary enough. Over the course of the game you get five weapons and there is also an optional sixth weapon on the shop, weapons like the plasma cutter and the ripper blades return from the original games, but there are weapons like the plasma saw and the core extractor that are completely new. The story line is good enough that you want to know what happens next which is unusual in a horror game. Some of the scariest parts of the game come from the insanity of the main character as Vandal seems to be going through the same thing that Isaac has. Another thing about the game that i liked were the acheivements, achievements are, in my opinion often done badly, either they are ridiculously hard to get, or there just doesn't seem to be any point. In this game most of the achievements are possible and everytime you get two achievements a new wallpaper is unlocked. I would consider this game one of my favorite apps.

SPOILERS! DO NOT READ THE NEXT PART IF YOU DON'T WANT THE GAME SPOILED FOR YOU!

After playing through the game I found out soem very interesting things, firstly throughout the game Vandal will make several voice logs, the first and last of these you can actually find and listen to in dead space two, Unfortunately when you find the last one it is next to a mangled corpse wearing engineer class armor, which probably explains Vandals fate. Another thing i found was that the first letter in each chapters name spells out a secret message. In dead space world it spells out hewillbetray. For someone who has played the game it is not very hard to figure out what that is referring to.

Sephiroth killed me: I feel Honoured!

Why would I be happy that sephiroth killed me in kingdom hearts 2? simple. I hurt him enough for him to use the heartless angel attack. an attack that leaves you with 1hp and 0mp. so if you don't stop him from using it, your pretty much screwed. I have to say though. He is much easier to damage than the dustflier.

Watch the video and see what i'm talking about
If you don't stop his attack when he says "SIN HEARTLESS ANGEL" he will anihilate you.

It talks about e3 and stuff, anyway peanut butter gamer as he calls himself on youtube makes pretty good videos, all gaming related. Creepy comments about tomb raider aside i think it is a pretty good video.
