Nightwing

Once, the Dark Knight saw himself in a young boy. He took that boy under his wing and taught him everything he knew. The boy became a dork. Eventually, after shedding the image of Robin, the Boy Wonder grew up and became his own hero. That boy was Richard Greyson. Nightwing. The Nightwing DLC comes out tomorrow on November 1st. Will you answer the signal?

Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions review.

Developer Beenox have been given full control of the Spider-Man licence and have so far created two games and are working on a third. The first of these is Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions. A game which changes a few things for the genre and removes many of the problems of past games. However, it fails to reach Arkham City greatness thanks to a few issues.

To begin, the story is a little uninspired. Basically, in a fight between Spidery and Mysterio, the tablet of Order and Chaos is shattered, causing dimensions to fall apart. The fragments of the tablet must be recovered by four different Spider-Men. There's the Amazing Spider-Man, who's got some pretty handy web attacks and specializes in acrobatic combat. Spider-Man Noir, who is a stealthy wall-crawler that uses the shadows to his advantage. Spider-Man 2099 has the fastest combat, some free falling sections and a handy ability which slows down time called spider-reflexes...I mean accelerated vision. And last but not least, there's Ultimate Spider-Man, who is the tank of the four. He dishes out the most damage and has flailing tentacles thanks to the black suit. Expect to be swarmed in the Ultimate universe. All these Spider-Men remove the repetitive gameplay that plagued many of the web-slinger's adventures thanks to the sheer variety in combat styles. However, the story is dull. Here it is summed up in one sentence: Spider-Man fights chases a villain throughout the level to retrieve the tablet. Luckily, the graphics make up for the lackluster story. Each world looks different from the other and really suits the style of Spider.

Gameplay is strong. You fight as the Amazing Spider-Man using acrobatic, web-based attacks, 2099 using extremely fast paced brawling, launching and jumping attacks and Ultimate by hitting everything in sight. Ultimate makes you feel like a powerhouse, smashing everything, hitting hard and yet still being a small, lanky teenager with surprising agility. The immense power you feel makes up for the lack of strategy involved. Noir is the Spider-Man that feels different from the rest. Guns to a lot of damage in the Noir universe, so remaining in the shadows is imperative. You spend a lot of time assessing when and where to do takedowns, which bring an enemy down in one hit. Try charging in all macho and buff, you will take too much damage and go down. This is cool, but it not fully fleshed out. For one, the thugs have set patrol paths, so it's not as strategic as Arkham Asylum/City and it also exposes the game's major problem. The camera. It is especially tricky to move on the wall. But, it isn't game destroying, just really, really, really irritating. When fighting with the other universes, you string together light and heavy attacks. It is possible to button mash your way through, but this game it about making your own fun with the combat. You can buy upgrades to the combo's by completing challenges, which unlock more upgrades and give you points. You can beat up the bad guys with merely using the same button, or you can choose to hit him with a tentacle, launch him into the air, hit him again, throw him into the ground and then land a kick into him and oh, so much more.
The boss battles are also really fun and have a feeling of epicness. Each boss is fun to engage and battle, but this two opens up another problem. The game is just too easy. Overall, it is fun, just not hugely challenging. There is one other thing I would like to say. GLITCHES GALORE! But, that shouldn't put you off too much.
Get back here with my 3DS!

Shattered Dimensions is a great choice for fans of Spider-Man, or newcomers looking to discover the character, just don't expect anything ground-breaking.

DOCTOR

Watch this

4evs, you may delete this post when the doc has seen it.

Batman Arkham City first gameplay impressions.

I thought today would be pretty suckish. After leaving my at four, I went to a nearby EB games to grab a copy of Edge of Time for 3DS. There were none. I was pretty annoyed at this. So, I caught a bus home...well, almost. A fight broke out on the bus between a man and a woman, so the bus driver called assault and we had to be ushered off to catch a new bus. After finally getting on another one, I eventually got off at my stop and had to wait AGAIN for the next bus to take me home. Midway through, I changed my mind and let the bus drop me at "the village" shopping centre to have another look for Edge of Time. STILL NOTHING! It was at this point things started to turn around. While I couldn't get Edge of Time, I did pre-order the legendary edition of Skyward Sword (the guy at the desk said: "But I just did that for everyone!") Meanwhile, a noob was playing Arkham City in the store. I watched and waited. Eventually, when Boy Blunder finally got tired of trying to solve the riddle of "If noise is from the soul, then music must be from the heart" (or something like that) he got off. I'm going: Well done Dork Knight, let me show you how it's done, and pick up the controller. Two things immediately grabbed my attention. The first of these being that I was out of practise. I hadn't played Arkham City in a while... The second: THE GAME %&#$ING ROCKED! OH MY GOD, IT'S AMAZING!
It feels similar, but at the same time, so new. The gliding and flight mechanics are the best ever and there are new "quick fire options" for gadgets. I was worried about these before playing the game, I thought they would be clunky and hard to use. Not so, they are as simple as: hold L1 and tap face button. It feels smooth and natural, but most of all, it feels like Batman. I want nothing more than to play this game, but I will have to wait. But I can wait. Besides, there are Metroids that need exterminating...
The videos do three things
1.) Proves IGN are noobs
2.) Shows of Bronze age Batman
3.) Makes Boy Wonder haters cringe.

The Amazing Spider-Man.

When it comes to games, Spider-Man hasn't always had the best of luck. After some well loved games on the PS1 and some cool open world style games like Spider-Man 2 and Ultimate Spider-Man, the Web Slinger has found it hard to win over critics and fans with his games. Luckily, 2010 saw the birth of Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions. This was finally something to be excited over, a good Spider-Man game, received well by reviewers and fans. However, many players wanted to return to the open world of New York. And now, with the upcoming movie, Spider-Man is back in the big apple. I know what you're thinking (movie game...shudder) but hear me out. This game will have a longer time to develop than most movie games do since it takes place after the movie and won't be as rushed to match the movie's story. Is the mixed reception of Edge of Time about to be replaced with a truly ground-breaking Spider-Man experience? Only time will tell, but the fans who viewed it are actually pretty excited. But will Beenox do to Spider-Man what Rocksteady did to Batman?

Why I prefer Halo 3 to Halo Reach

ill say it now, i do not dislike reach. Reach is TOTALY FRICKIN AWESOME, but i prefer Halo 3, thats all.
Anyway, time to get to the "why" part.
Halo 3's campaign. nuff said.
lol jokes, thats not enough. Halo 3's campaign, to me, is just astounding. While reach is amazing, 3 gives me the urge to travel into space, find some giant monkeys with hammers, and fill them with lead. Then theres the music. My GAWD!
anyone whos played this game knows that halo 3 had an unbelivably EPIC sountrack. Now, reach did as well... but reach didn't have this

exactly.
now, reach's soundtrack was also, muoi fantastico, to me it was just not as good as halo 3's.

Multiplayer.
personally, im not much of a multiplayer deathmatch kind of person. Im the kind of gamer who likes doing co-op stuffs. Halo 3 has a co-op campaign. So does reach. But does reach let player 2 be the Arbiter?
No. Not really.
another thing. who would you rather have driving/gunning on the final mission? an A.I?
Or your buddy in elite form?
(or sgt johnson).

Halo 3's traditional multiplayer. well, in the case of multiplayer match making, i prefer Halo reach. seeing as its far easier to defend yourself in reach, what with armor abilities and whatnot, i prefer it.
i just prefer the Halo 3 campaign, music and co-op.

Stuff

So, i have been thinking, i've decided that i should probably make a larger contribution to the blog. Whats that you say? "Terfle, you already make such an amazing and huge contribution already" well i know, but i've decided to step it up. Beginning at a time that is so far unspecified i will begin to make weekly posts, and proper actual posts, not just ones with one sentence and a youtube video attached. I already have a few ideas for stuff, oh, and i wont be making one for each blog, just one each week. Unfortunately schoolwork is just way, way too overwhelming to start doing this now, but when i eventually do, i will tell you all. Who knows, maybe once i get a minecraft code, me and the doc can review adventure maps or something, or maybe me and 4evs can do more app reviews or something. I wanna find more stuff that we can do together, so if anyone has any ideas, please tell me. Whats that you say "I lied before, you make little to no contribution, and i cant help but wonder why you still have posting rights" well to that i say, why dont you write it down on a piece of paper, tear it up and shut your face. There, problem solved.

Arkham City extras

If you aren't already dribbling all over your shirt from excitement of the near release of Arkham city on 360 and PS3 on November 19 and the release of it on Wii U next year, then here are some more reasons.

Playable characters: Most people would be content with merely playing as the caped crusader, but wait, there's more! As well as the Dark Knight, Catwoman has been revealed as a playable character in both challenge maps and the campaign. If that wasn't enough, the Boy Wonder himself is appearing in Arkham City in several challenge map DLC's. Yes, Robin is in Arkham City and perhaps for the first time in his whole life, Tim Drake is actually cool.

Oh, but that's not the end of it. Yes folks, the original Robin has made land in Arkham City along with several challenge maps. One of which is the house he grew up in. Wayne Manor. Yes ladies and gentlemen. Nightwing has freakin' arrived.

I  can't wait to play as 1970's Bats
Extra Costumes: An often used hook for super-hero games (especially for DLC's and Pre-Orders) is the alternate costumes. Nerds often have to take a few moments to regain breath after seeing alternate suits and Arkham City has a lot.

Watch out for the one on the right
Oh, and the bird boy gets some new threads as well:

arkham city easter eggs on the youtubes

There are a few videos that the two of you may want to watch, they come up and annotations in youtube videos and i found two of them before actually realising what they are. They are easter eggs for the game arkham city, a game im sure the two of you cant wait for. I only watched the first one, i assume they are all audio only videos of some interesting events.

So here are the links

Terfle

Another point of view for the great Halo War

A while ago, I asked the impossible question. Halo 3 or Halo Reach? Since there's just the three of us, I decided to bring in another opinion. But before I tell you his opinion, let me say that for now, the blog has come to a standstill with the debate. I prefer Reach while the Doctor prefers 3 and Terfle has no say in the matter yet. So, here's the guy's opinion. He is an avid Halo player having owned every Halo except for Halo 2 and is currently at the rank of "Hero" in Reach. Here we go:
"First of all, there's firefight. Reach's version is so much better than ODST's because the customization is limitless. And you've got all these great maps and modes right? Halo 3 didn't even have firefight. Next off, forge. Reach is way better, you can phase objects into each other, so you can make pretty much anything. And look at the graphics. They're just so much better than Halo 3's. And, with the multiplayer, you've got these great maps and modes as well as much better playlists. And the amour abilities just make the game more fun and more unpredictable. Single player's pretty much the same though, they're both pretty fun, but with Reach, it gets harder when you have more people, so it makes it more rewarding. And the armoury is just great. it's your spartan. Not just another Master Chief. When you go into multiplayer, you don't change. It's still your spartan"

That's his opinion. Who's next?

Another one for you, doc

i thought this video was pretty interesting, and it tells you the reason why endermen are called what they are.

Combat evolved: Anniversary- The bells and whistles

whilst checking out the interwebs, i came across this. a demo of the new Combat evolved game.
Watch the video first

Things that i have to say about this, it is exactly the same as it was 10 years ago, but prettier.
in fact, as the video will explain, you can actually set it to what it looked like 10 years ago!
i think we have another masterpiece on our hands...
